Tien Song Ped Yang knows their duck

I love duck when properly made. It’s also an ingredient that’s easy to fuck up and many do just that. Also in Bangkok. At Tien Song Ped Yang they have chosen the quality route and deliver good and tasty stuff that can explain the more than 65 years in business and the high concentration of locals returning to this big shophouse in Dinso Road. And that’s in an area that truly is a contender to being the best street food area in all of Bangkok.

Cutting the duck

The bbq-duck (Ped Yang) is the main speciality at Tien Song. But you shouldn’t limit yourself to the duck if you’re hungry, they also have other tasty dishes like red pork and crispy pork. They also have more Chinese inspired dishes which also explains the name of the shop, Tien Song. Egg noodle soup with wonton, Chinese dumplings and dim sum are some of them.

The BBQ Duck

But back to the duck. The meat is tender and tasty, and most of all, it has a perfect amount of fat. Not overly fatty as many vendors serves it to give cheaper prices. Also, the sauce is not as black and sweet as most other Bangkok vendors (and in Singapore), it’s lighter which I prefer. The plate comes with pickled ginger and slices of cucumbers on the side.

As they have toasted bread, you should try the orange kaya if you have some space left under your belt. It’s smooth and delicious. And don’t forget that the coffee is good as well here.

They have a charcoal bbq in front of the shop where sticks of pork satay are sizzling for a snack on the go. But when I tried them, they didn’t impress to much, being on the dry side.

Tien Song is a rather big restaurant, but the atmosphere is welcoming and you can see most of the food being prepared. The English level depends on who you speak to.
