Rawanstar Roasted Duck – a visit you wont forget

Recommendation

Roasted ducks is flying in and out of Rawanstar rapidly. But this is not the place to duck, but to open your mouth for some incredible flavors. Rawanstar Roasted Duck is packed with fans during breakfast and lunchtime hours. You’ll soon enough understand when you put the first spoon to your lips. You can also have a whole duck to go if you like and many locals do just that.

Handling the knife at Rawanstar

Personally I prefer to sit in the restaurant, soaking up on the atmosphere and dig in on their delicious duck.

And yes, don’t forget to taste their extraordinary wonton dumplings and the homemade egg noodles as well.

Dumplings

Dumplings

The duck meat is succulent, the skin is crunchy and flavorful. And the sauce hits the correct sweetness and is a great companion for the duck if you go for the rice version.

There is no embarrassment in ordering a second or third portion at Rawanstar Roasted Duck (or One Star as it’s also called). It’s probably more surprising if you don’t. Taste wise, it’s rather close to fine art what they are doing here.

You easily accept the crowding at the entrance and wait for you’re turn during peak hours. I prefer coming here in between breakfast and lunch were the tempo has slowed down a little.

If you’re still hungry or you want to taste out some more stalls and vendors in the area, there’s several options. You have Ma Yodpack Radna just a few doors down the road (775/1) where you can dig inn on delicious Radna or Pad see ew. You also have great noodles with kobe beef at Reua Wooah Rai Time Taan, just around the corner (500/2 Rama 5 Road). You can choose between three types of noodles.

You find Rawanstar Roasted Duck and plenty of other good vendors close to the Ratchawat Market, one of the oldest in town. It’s a bit hidden in the Dusit district as your best option is taxi to get there.

Few tourists means genuine and traditional food. Ratchawat is also a super cheap area to eat in. An option is to start out in the area and to walk towards the Chao Phraya river. Another good spot close to Rawanstar Roasted Duck is Ma Yodpak Radna Ratchawat serving radna (marinated pork, crispy noodels and an exceptional gravy) and Pad see ew (stir-fried flat rice noodles with scrambled egg, kale and tender pork meat).

The Dusit district

Dusit is one of 50 districts (Khet) in Bangkok. It forms the main administrative centre of the kingdom, as both the National Assembly and royal palace are located in this district, as are several ministries. It is connected to Rattanakosin Island by Ratchadamnoen Avenue (literally the Royal way for traveling).

Neighbouring districts are, clockwise from north; Bang Sue, Phaya Thai, Ratchathewi, Pathum Wan, Pom Prap Sattru Phai, Phra Nakhon, and across the Chao Phraya, the district of Bang Phlat.

The district was established by King Chulalongkorn, who wanted to escape the cluttered area of Rattanakosin Island. Vimanmek Palace was constructed in 1900 completely out of teak, and was used as a royal palace for a short time, but was abandoned in 1908. it was reconstructed in 1992 and is now one of the major tourist attractions in the district. Chitralada Palace was built by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI), and is still the residence of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The large park around the palace is used by The King for agricultural research.
